WHO ARE WE

We are a group of friends and neighbours acting in solidarity with the Palestinian liberation movement on the unceded territories of SENĆOŦEN and Hul’q’umi’num speaking people (Salt Spring Island) where we live, building community around shared commitments to justice, mutual care, and collective liberation. We have committed to the Apartheid Free Community pledge, and are actively working to encourage Salt Springers to reject the economic and ideological structures that uphold systems of domination, from Turtle Island to Palestine and everywhere such injustice persists.

aims

Educate and mobilize our community to participate in interconnected struggles for collective liberation, bringing awareness to the ways we are complicit in systems of harm and enacting possibilities for transforming those systems through creative collaboration.

Cultivate community through celebration of Palestinian culture, grounding our action in the beauty and history of the land on which we gather and organize.

values

Uplift Palestinian voices—we believe Palestinians have the power to liberate themselves, we are responsible for supporting them.

End Apartheid—as members of the Apartheid-Free network, we pledge to oppose the systematic domination of one group of people over another through concrete action, education, open discussion, and continuous learning. Opposing apartheid means exposing and standing against racism, colonialism, exploitation, and dispossession in all its forms, wherever it emerges.

principles

We affirm and support Al-Thawabet, the framework developed by and for Palestinians to maintain the vision of liberation. The five principles of Al-Thawabet assert:

1. Refugees have the right to return;

2. The dispossessed are entitled to restitution and compensation;

3. Palestinians have the right to resist occupation;

4. Palestinians are entitled to full self-determination from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea;

5. Reject all forms of colonialism and normalization of the occupation.

We affirm and support the Land Back movement, which calls for the return of indigenous land to indigenous people. We act in solidarity with those struggling to resist current colonial land theft, whether in Gaza or Yintah or Sogorea Te, as well as with those reclaiming land, language, and tradition and healing the generational wounds of colonial violence.

We commit to dismantling Zionism and all other forms of oppression. Bigoted ideologies such as Zionism, white supremacy, ableism, transphobia, etc. rely on the normalization of abusive and dehumanizing hierarchies, and they mutually reinforce one another through systems that reward compliance and punish difference. We seek to unlearn domination and cultivate radical care in ourselves, our relationships, and our community institutions. To (un)learn more:
